DescriptionThis large scalloped dish exemplifies a type of decoration commonly found on Moustiers faience and possibly invented by Joseph Olérys. It shows human figures and fantastical animals amid insects and floral garlands. The spontaneous, yet precisely executed decoration is rendered in monochrome ocre. The engravings of Jacques Callot (1592-1635) may have inspired some of the figures.
