MarkingsOn bottom, large incised "N" with scrolled ends just in front of a hole impressed into the inside of the foot ring. (Foot ring holes are found on French, 18th-century porcelain.) In centre of bottom, painted in faded pale blue, a large script "D" with a crown above.

DescriptionDessert Plate, soft paste porcelain with overglaze enamel decoration and gilding. Round plates with 12 wide scallops to the rim: the scallops do not project very far and have a small indentation at the middle. Edge of rim thick and slightly raised at top. Narrow rim curves gently down to a shallow centre, much like a soup plate. Bottom depressed with thick, convex foot ring. Hand-painted overglaze in enamels with four "scallop shell" reserves outlined in a brilliant overglaze blue edged with gold. Rich gold scallop-shaped arcs painted on the rim between the large shell reserves. Painted polychrome enamel floral bouquets, a large one in the centre, and smaller ones in each blue scallop reserve. Raised edge gilt with small scallops along the inside and an inner gold band conforming in pattern to the undulating rim.
