DescriptionThe octagonal plate is decorated with two architectural monuments set in cartouches; the building in the rectangular cartouche is identified as “Lieut Governors Residence Toronto,” and the one in the roundel is identified as “The Costumhouse Boston.” The cartouches are framed by sprays of exotic flowers and a butterfly. The overall design is transfer-printed on an earthenware body; the flowers and other details were enhanced with enamel colours. Traces of gilding can be seen around the rim. The back of the plate carries the maker’s mark, the registration number, and the name of the pattern.
